Never go into a match with a losing mindset. This is the advice Caleb Strickland follows every time he steps onto the tennis court. Caleb is a junior at Altus High School. He plays singles and doubles, but doubles is his favorite.
Playing tennis keeps him active and has taught him patience and discipline. Growing up playing tennis with his family has made Caleb passionate for the sport. “My sister started playing tennis when I was seven, then my brother got into it so we would go to the courts to play together. They taught me that tennis was fun,” he says.
Playing tennis in high school has provided Caleb with new opportunities. An accomplishment he is most proud of includes a trip to the state tournament where he represented AHS as an athlete. From being on the court at the state level to staying at a hotel with his team, Caleb says this is the best memory he has had with his tennis team.
Being on a team is a chance to build relationships with others who also enjoy your sport. A teammate who leaves an impression on Caleb is Rawley. “He will always be there when I’m having a good day or when I’m having a bad day,” said Caleb.
Caleb wants to thank those who have helped and inspired him in his sport and in life. “Thank you, Coach Dabs for making me fall in love with tennis and JRob and Vinyard for giving me the tools and support to get better,” he says adding “My parents inspire me because they push me to always try my hardest and never give up; win or lose.”
His favorite teacher is Mrs. Remple. She was always very understanding and had a good sense of humor. When asked about the most memorable vacation, Caleb recalls a family trip to South Carolina. “We caught crab and had a seafood boil.”
While Caleb didn’t mention any particular hobbies, he did say he loves the time he spends hanging out with his friends.
