Throughout an athlete’s career, there are moments that stand out for a variety of reasons. It could be a personal accomplishment or a team achievement, or just something funny that happened during play. Altus’ Brooklyn Gambill has one moment that stands out as her favorite.
“The highlight moment of my career has to be when I caught the last out to get us to the state championship,” she said. “It was my sophomore year of fastpitch and I was playing in right field. It was the bottom of the seventh inning and the batter popped up a foul ball and I made a diving catch to finish the game.”
Gambill is in her senior year at Altus High School, where she currently plays first base for the softball team. She says that knowing that her high school career is winding down helps keep her focused so that she can be the best player that she can be.
“The thing that motivates me the most is knowing that my softball career is almost over and I don’t want to have regrets,” she stated. “Success in my sport has required dedication, hard work, and a focus on staying physically fit. Gambill said. “I’ve had to master the basics, stay mentally tough, and adapt to challenges. With the support of great coaches and my team, I’ve stayed motivated and constantly pushed myself to improve.”
There have been a number of people that have impacted her life and helped Brooklyn become the person that she is today.
“My dad is probably my biggest role model,” she said. “He is always striving to be a better version of himself, and is always trying to help people no matter the situation. He inspires me to be the best to my ability and is always there when I need him. Also, I think the teacher who had the biggest impact on me was Mrs. Lollis, my Pre-AP Algebra teacher. She taught me my junior year of high school. She was always there to talk when I needed to and if I ever needed anything I would go to her about it.”
