Mangum charges into 2026 on the heels of an 11-1 district championship season with a roster loaded with juniors and seniors who have essentially started since they were freshmen. Head coach Sam Powers loves the way experience and production intersect on this team, noting that most of his upperclassmen have been through big games and high-leverage moments throughout their careers. The Tigers believe this is the year they can take the next step from district champs to making a serious run deep into the state playoffs.
Offensively, Mangum brings back nine starters and will again line up in its wing spread scheme, using a variety of tempos, formations, motions and shifts to challenge defensive game plans week by week. Senior quarterback and four-year starter Remington Laughlin (6-4, 200) is a dual-threat, completing 129 of 171 passes for 2,125 yards and 23 touchdowns against just three interceptions, while also rushing 96 times for 614 yards and 15 scores. Senior running back Curtis Henley (5-10, 170) adds a home-run element with 1,022 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns, plus 23 receptions for 276 yards and three scores and two kickoff returns taken back for touchdowns. Junior receiver Zeke Rogers (6-5, 170) hauled in 50 passes for 930 yards and 11 touchdowns, and junior receiver Max Richardson (5-11, 185) added 28 catches for 521 yards and six scores while contributing in the run game. The line is anchored by junior Aiden Augustine (6-2, 285), who allowed just one sack and registered 26 pancakes, and senior Brylon Smith (6-2, 225), who added 15 pancakes in a physical front.
Defensively, the Tigers also return nine starters and base out of multiple fronts and coverages, using disguise to confuse opposing quarterbacks and force mistakes. Junior middle linebacker Cooper Kerbo (5-9, 180) is a tackling machine after recording 146 total stops, 19 tackles for loss, four sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Fellow junior middle linebacker Beau Rogers (6-2, 170) complements him with 104 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, four sacks and a pair of takeaway plays, while senior defensive end Shane Lee (5-11, 250) chipped in 57 tackles, eight tackles for loss and two sacks on the edge. Senior safety Clayton Caskey (5-9, 170) was a playmaker on the back end with 69 tackles, three tackles for loss, two interceptions, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and two defensive touchdowns, and senior corner Diego Telles (5-8, 155) locked down receivers and picked off eight passes.
Laughlin is the program’s VYPE Top 100 nominee, praised as a four-year starter with all the tools to play at the next level and one of the hardest workers in every room he enters.
With a veteran core on both sides of the ball and a schedule that will test them every week, Mangum expects to be squarely in the championship conversation again this fall.
