Mangum’s youth hasn’t stunted coach Genny Stidham’s optimism for the upcoming season. “The Mangum softball team will be extremely young this year with two seniors at the helm, three sophomores and 11 freshmen,” Stidham said. Brynne Woodress (Sr., P/INF), a Western Oklahoma State College commit, is one of the area’s best pitchers. “Brynne is a smart pitcher with a good knowledge of the game. She is a competitor and enjoys being in the pitching circle,” Stidham said. “Last year, she pitched 116.9 innings with 125 strikeouts. She has a variety of pitches and is able to recognize the weakness of hitters. I believe this year, as a senior, she will thrive on the mound but also at the plate. Brynne is a good defensive player and will play in the infield when not pitching. She is a well-rounded athlete with a great deal of talent. I am excited to watch her play and excel.” The Tigers will have a great second option, too. Paelyn Clark (Fr., P/Ulty) will make her varsity debut this fall after an accomplished junior high career. “Paelyn is a hard working athlete who spends a great deal of time working on perfecting her craft. She is smart and dominates in the circle,” Stidham said. “In the two years as a seventh and eighth grader, she accumulated 197 strikeouts and kept her opponents to a .150 batting average. She also did a great job at the plate with a .564 batting average. This athlete is one to watch.” Holly Leamon-Webb (Sr., OF/Ulty) has been a weapon for the Tigers for three years and looks to end her varsity career with a bang. “Holly has played many positions in her career at Mangum,” Stidham said. “She has played several infield positions and every outfield position since her freshman year. She may find herself entertaining several positions her senior year but you will not find her complaining. She will always do her best and work hard to help her team succeed.”
