WALTERS BLUE DEVILS
Coach: FARON GRIFFIN
2-8
Last season was a true rebuild for Walters after graduating 17 seniors in 2024, but third-year head coach Faron Griffin watched a young group improve every week and play good football by the end of the year. With most of that core back, including the starting quarterback and the entire offensive line, the Blue Devils believe they can move from rebuilding mode back into the playoff hunt in 2026. Griffin likes the toughness this group showed while taking its lumps and expects that experience to translate into a more consistent, physical team this fall.
Walters will spread the field and “make them cover every blade of grass” on offense, leaning on returning production at the skill spots and a veteran line up front. Senior running back Carson Jones (6-3, 200) rushed for 650 yards and added 109 receiving yards in 2025 and headlines the attack as a physical runner who can also catch the ball out of the backfield. Junior quarterback Jagger Brown (6-1, 170) returns after throwing for 522 yards and adding 148 rushing yards last season, giving the Blue Devils a dual-threat leader who has now seen a full year of varsity defenses. Up front, seniors Kanyon Simpson (6-1, 245), Juan Remirez (6-1, 240) and Parker Reece (5-8, 180) anchor a line that returns intact and should be a strength, while senior tight end Heston Wuaqua (6-2, 230) provides size on the edge and a target in the passing game. With nine offensive starters back, Walters expects to be more efficient, finish drives and put far more pressure on opposing defenses.
Defensively, Walters lines up in a 3-3-5 and wants to play aggressive and never let opponents know where the heat is coming from. Jones doubles as a linebacker and recorded 57 tackles a year ago, and Griffin expects him to be a force on both sides of the ball as a three-year starter and VYPE Top 100 nominee. Wuaqua posted 18 tackles and three sacks from defensive end, Brown added 51 tackles and an interception from linebacker, and senior defensive back Kelton Sutherland (6-2, 185) contributed 21 tackles and a pick on the back end. Sophomore-to-be Braddix Torres is a player to keep an eye on after seeing time as a freshman and will work at both linebacker and running back. With returning experience across the board and a full offseason to build on last year’s progress, Walters expects to be back in the mix for a playoff spot by November.
