The Elk City boys track team enters the season with momentum and high expectations as head coach Andy Peffer looks for his squad to make significant strides this spring.

“We are excited for our boys’ team to take a big leap this year,” Peffer said. “We have a great mixture of veterans and young kids and expect to qualify multiple events to the state track meet.”

That blend of experience and emerging talent gives the Elks balance across sprint relays and open events, positioning them to compete at a high level throughout the season.

Leading the charge is Riley Smith, a sophomore who continues to elevate his performance year after year.

“Riley is just a sophomore, but he has steadily improved his strength and speed every year,” Peffer said. “We expect him to be our best leg on three relays this year. He is motivated to will his relay teams to a state track meet appearance.”

Smith’s development and determination make him a key piece in Elk City’s relay success. His role across multiple relays underscores the confidence the coaching staff has in his ability to perform in big moments.

Freshman Rhaziah Reese is already making an impact at the varsity level.

“Rhaziah is a freshman this year that will be a big part of our Varsity team,” Peffer said. “His speed is incredible for his young age. He will be a big part of our sprint relays as well as the open sprints.”

Reese’s raw speed and versatility add depth to the sprint group and give the Elks another weapon as they pursue state-qualifying marks.

Senior Tommy Bailey provides leadership and consistency for the program.

“Tommy is a senior and a big-time leader for our team,” Peffer said. “He is an example to the young kids about being consistent and having measured growth every year.”

With Smith leading the relays, Reese bringing explosive speed, and Bailey setting the standard for leadership, Elk City has the pieces in place for a breakthrough season. The Elks’ combination of youth, veteran presence and focused preparation has them aiming high as they look to send multiple events to the state track meet this year.
