Weatherford’s Preston King – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Jackie Dickerson / Shelter Insurance

Senior Preston King wraps up his Weatherford High School career with a dual-sport presence that demands respect behind the plate and on the gridiron.

He plays football as an outside linebacker and baseball as the catcher, balancing both with intensity and consistency. One achievement rises above the rest from his senior football campaign. “Being named an OFBCA All Star for the 4A West team Outside Linebacker and getting three pick-6’s during my senior year of football!” King said.

Those moments taught him lessons that carry over to every diamond he steps onto. “Discipline and to be humble,” King said when asked what his sport has taught him that makes him a better person. That grounded approach shapes how he competes and interacts with those around him.

Two teachers have made lasting impacts across his school years. “I actually have two! Mrs. Donna Miller (first grade) and Mrs. Waldrop (anatomy),” he said. “Mrs. Miller has always stayed in contact with me. She is an amazing person and gives the best hugs every time I see her. Mrs. Waldrop is just awesome! I can talk to her about anything, and she has actually helped me figure out what I want to do with my career.”

King credits his family for instilling his drive. “My parents,” he said when asked who inspires him most. “My hard work and determination come from them. I want to be the best I can be in everything I do, and I thank them for those attributes.” On the field, one teammate stands out. “Steel Chisum because of his leadership,” King said of who has left the biggest impression.

Representing Weatherford remains a highlight. “I get to play with great teammates and awesome coaches,” he said. A simple principle guides him through decisions big and small. “Always do the right thing,” King said of the best advice he has received.

He makes sure to recognize those who have shaped his path. “My coaches and teachers and parents. Thank you for making me the person I am today,” he said.
