Athlete Spotlight with Weatherford’s Preston King – Presented by Eagle Realty- The Morley Group

Under the Friday night lights of Weatherford, the rumble of the crowd builds just before the snap. Senior linebacker Preston King sits on the edge of anticipation, reading the field, studying movement, and waiting for his chance. Moments like these have defined his high school journey, both in football and baseball, and taught him lessons that stretch far beyond the scoreboard.

Football gave Preston his defining moments, but one stands out above all. Being named an OFBCA All-Star for the 4A West team put his name among the best, yet he’s quick to point to effort before accolades. Three pick-sixes during his senior year sealed games and energized teammates, reinforcing his belief that hard work really does pay off.

“Football has taught me discipline and to be humble,” he said, reflecting on how the game shaped his outlook.

That humility carries onto the baseball diamond, where he crouches behind the plate as catcher, his eyes sharp, his voice leading the defense. Preston knows that being an athlete at Weatherford High means more than performance stats; it’s about representing something bigger.

“I get to play with great teammates and awesome coaches,” he said with a grin.

His gratitude extends beyond the field. Preston credits two teachers who left lasting marks on his path: Mrs. Donna Miller, his first-grade teacher who still checks in on him, and Mrs. Waldrop from Anatomy, who helped spark ideas about his future. Both remind him that connection and kindness matter just as much as achievement.

Family anchors it all.

“My parents inspire me. My hard work and determination come from them,” Preston said. “I want to be the best I can be in everything I do.”

He also gives a nod to teammate Steel Chisum, whose leadership pushed him to grow stronger and think smarter.

When asked what advice has guided him most, he doesn’t hesitate.

“Always do the right thing.”

Simple words, but ones Preston has carried with consistency. And as he looks toward what’s next, he’s quick with one more message: gratitude. “Thank you to my coaches, teachers, and parents for making me the person I am today.”
