Promise Tubbs is a senior guard at Hollis High School who competes in both basketball and track, bringing strength, perseverance, and respect into everything she does. She fell in love with basketball because of the intensity and life lessons the game offers. Tubbs is finishing her final season, leaving it all on the floor even if that means blood, sweat, and tears.
Her mom has helped her put in the work needed to be an athlete. Tubbs is proud of the relationship with God her mom shows in life daily, showing her the way to Christ.
One of Tubbs’ most memorable highlights came on the track when she beat her mom’s 100-meter dash record! On the court, her team recently made the Top 20 in Class A Girls Basketball; which isn’t an easy feat.
“I believe success comes from mental toughness. It takes grit, determination, and a positive mindset to truly excel,” she shares.
Off the court, Tubbs stays actively involved in many school activities. She is a member of Junior Aeolians and the Altus Chamber of Commerce, part of the National Technical Honor Society at Southwest Vo-Tech, and a member of the Oklahoma National Honor Society at Hollis High School. She also serves as the President of her senior class. Balancing it by holding herself accountable in everything she does.
The closeness of Tubbs’ team is what makes them truly special. A bond like theirs shows on the court with trust and confidence for one another. She started playing basketball in kindergarten and has stayed faithful to the game ever since. Tubbs loves to be an example for younger generations just as her mom was for her. She wants them to know one thing:
“Stay consistent and always remember that being kind and showing good sportsmanship is free,” she says.
Tubbs takes pride in representing Holis and the community that comes out to support the school. She’s proud of her heritage and hometown. After high school, Tubbs plans to attend OU, where she has previously committed to become a radiologist and is considering running track in the future.
