Mangum’s Daiviana Davis – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Jackson County Memorial Hospital

At Mangum High School, sophomore Daiviana Davis is known for her energy, perseverance, and ability to juggle it all. Whether she’s leading chants from the sidelines as part of the MHS cheer team, sprinting down the court for the Mangum girls’ basketball team, or crossing the finish line in track season, Daiviana gives everything she has to every challenge that comes her way.

On the basketball court, she typically plays as a forward, switching between the 3 and 4 positions depending on the lineup. Her hard work shows in every game, especially when her team faces their longtime rivals, Hollis.

“Beating them is always special,” she says with a grin.

In the spring, Daiviana transitions to track, focusing on the 400-meter dash and the 800-meter run, events that test not just her speed, but her endurance and determination.

Daiviana credits much of her success to her family and friends, who she says are her greatest motivation.

“They’ve always supported me through everything,” she explains.

Her biggest role model, though, is her mom, Linda Davis, whose dedication and strength inspire her to keep pushing forward no matter how busy life gets.

In the classroom, Daiviana shines just as brightly. A straight-A student, she praises her English teacher, Mrs. Hart, for making learning meaningful and fun.

“She always has a smile on her face and explains things in a way that makes them easy to understand,” Daiviana adds.

Outside of sports, she stays active through FCCLA, the Honor Society, and SCA, organizations that build her leadership, faith, and sense of community. One of her favorite moments of service is reading to younger students, whose excitement always reminds her why she loves giving back.

Balancing academics, athletics, and leadership isn’t easy, but Daiviana makes it work with careful planning and dedication. Whether she’s performing a halftime cheer, locking down on defense, or encouraging a teammate like Zoe Gutierrez, she represents Mangum with pride.

“It means a lot to play for my hometown,” she says. “I just want to give our crowd something to cheer for every time I’m on the court.”
