Wilson High School junior Cooper Burkhart is a multi-sport athlete, playing baseball, basketball, football, and running track for the Wilson High School Eagles. In baseball, Cooper plays both the positions of 3rd base and pitcher; in basketball Cooper plays power forward; and in football, Cooper plays the position of wide receiver. Many would consider Cooper a sports veteran, having played baseball for 11 years, basketball for 9 years, and football for 1 year.
Cooper is proud to represent both his school and community as a student athlete. Cooper proclaimed, “I am proud to play for my school and I honor this commitment in my effort, attitude, and action.”
In terms of what motivates Cooper, he stated, “I enjoy the process of improving to become the absolute best I can.”
As far as what it has taken for Cooper to become successful in sports, Cooper stated, “It has taken a lot of time and effort, while also maintaining a good mindset at the same time.”
During a student athlete’s academic career, there is often a teacher that has stood out during their academic journey. Cooper stated, “The teacher that stood out the most to me is Mrs. Roberts. She believes highly in every single one of her students.”
Most student athletes have a memory that stands out as a favorite. For the memory for Cooper that stood out the most, he recalled, “My highlight moment as a student athlete was throwing a no hitter in a summer tournament.”
School rivalries are a natural part of playing sports. For Cooper, there is a particular opponent he enjoys winning against the most. Cooper stated, “I enjoy beating Velma public schools the most, because they have always been a big rival of ours.”
In addition to being a multisport athlete at Wilson High School, Cooper is also involved with Beta Club.
After graduating from high school, Cooper plans on pursuing higher education, and playing sports at the collegiate level. Cooper stated, “After high school, I would love to play college baseball, while also trying to be a Physical Therapist.”
