For Elk City senior Reece Robbins, the fear of being average isn’t just a passing thought; it’s what drives him every single day. A two-sport athlete competing in football and wrestling, Robbins has built his high school career on discipline, resilience, and a relentless work ethic.
On the gridiron, Robbins lines up as an outside linebacker, a position that demands both physicality and quick instincts. In wrestling, he competes at 157 pounds, where mental toughness and technique often make the difference. Both sports push him to his limits, but Robbins thrives on the challenge.
“It’s taken a lot of discipline and hard work to gain muscle, skill, and knowledge about my sports,” he said. “That’s what’s made me successful.”
Reece credits much of his success to the people who push him the hardest, his dad and Coach Greene.
“My dad is my biggest influence,” he shared. “He’s always pushing me to do my best and give 110% effort.”
“Coach Greene has made a huge impact by keeping me tough, even when I didn’t want to be,” Robbins added.
His determination was tested last year when a car accident and subsequent hand surgery sidelined him for his entire junior wrestling season.
“I lost almost all the muscle I had gained,” he recalled.
But true to form, Robbins refused to quit. He spent months rebuilding his strength, ultimately adding 40 pounds of muscle between April and August.
“It taught me to never give up and keep working no matter the circumstances,” he said.
One of his favorite moments so far came at the district duals, when he defeated an opponent from Weatherford, Elk City’s longtime rival.
“I’ve never liked them,” Robbins said with a grin. “Beating them always feels great.”
To Robbins, representing Elk City means everything.
“I wouldn’t want any other town across my chest when I compete,” he said.
With his grit, leadership, and comeback story, Reece Robbins stands as a true example of perseverance and pride, an athlete the Elk City community can be proud of.
