Hollis’ Charlie Robinson
On the court and in the show ring, Hollis High School’s Charlie Robinson is learning how responsibility and hard work can shape her future. The varsity point guard balances basketball with a busy schedule in FFA, where she shows pigs and spends time with friends on the livestock circuit.
Robinson said the point guard position demands constant focus and composure. “The most difficult part in playing my position is probably just keeping the ball from getting turned over and finding open looks and making plays when and where they need to be made,” she said. Coming into the new season, she feels her confidence is growing. “I feel like I’m shooting the ball better than previous years,” Robinson said.
Her favorite part of Hollis basketball is the team’s chemistry and attitude. “We are all very positive and we work together to try to be the best team and teammates we can be,” Robinson said. She points to Josie Robinson as the most vocal teammate and says Baker Riley is “most definitely” the one who keeps everyone laughing.
In the classroom and the ag barn, Robinson’s FFA life is just as important. Her favorite subject is math, and her favorite teacher is agriculture instructor Mrs. Coakley. “I just show pigs,” Robinson said with a laugh, but the time spent showing livestock and being around friends has become a highlight of her high school experience.
Whether it is practice, games or feeding time, Robinson leans on the example set by her parents. “They work hard, and they provide for me and my sister, and that inspires me to work hard in anything I do now and in the future,” she said. She said both athletics and FFA have taught her one lesson she will carry long after graduation: responsibility.
