Wilson Lady Eagles Basketball Team Preview

WILSON LADY EAGLES

Coach: KELLI KANA

2024-25 Record: 17-10

The Wilson Lady Eagles enter the 2026 season with a renewed sense of purpose and determination. Coming off a historic campaign that saw the program reach the Area Tournament for the first time in over three decades, the team faces the challenge of replacing four of last year’s five starters. While the roster is young, the Lady Eagles bring a mix of grit, athleticism, and dedication that positions them to compete at a high level. Under second-year Head Coach Kelli Kana, the focus this season is on developing skills, building chemistry, and maintaining the hard-working culture that helped the team achieve past success.

Senior guard Delaney Richardson (5-8, Sr.) returns as the team’s leader on and off the court. Richardson embodies leadership, balancing academics, athletics, and extracurricular involvement with poise and commitment. She anchors the team in rebounding, sets the tone defensively, and inspires her teammates through example. Fellow senior Elle Watkins (5-7, Sr.) adds experience and stability, providing support in both perimeter scoring and defensive assignments.

The junior class contributes heavily to the Lady Eagles’ depth. Guard Rylee Tiner (5-6, Jr.) and forward Taylor Renfro (5-9, Jr.) bring energy, versatility, and strong defensive effort, helping to bridge the experience gap while pushing the pace of play. Sophomore players such as guard Katelyn Bulla (5-5, So.) and forward Gabby Madrid (5-10, So.) are poised to make immediate contributions, blending skill, toughness, and athleticism. The young frontcourt is further strengthened by Maddie Bivens (5-9, So.), Morgan Keith (5-8, So.), Cheyenne Kerley (5-11, So.), Aspyn Buck (5-6, So.), and Bentley Smart (5-10, So.), all of whom are gaining valuable experience and showing potential to develop into impact players as the season progresses.

This group emphasizes hard work, discipline, and teamwork, with every player understanding her role and responsibility on the court. Coach Kana encourages communication, resilience, and unselfish play, creating an environment where young players can grow quickly while contributing immediately. With leadership from Richardson, support from Watkins and the juniors, and the energy and promise of the sophomores, the Wilson Lady Eagles are prepared to compete, challenge opponents, and make a meaningful run in the postseason, continuing the program’s upward trajectory.
