VYPE: What grade are you in, and what sports do you play?
Mea: I am a senior at Chickasha High School, and I play basketball.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that makes you a better person?
Basketball has taught me many things, such as discipline, working hard, and trusting the process. The things I’ve learned in basketball have taught me many lessons that I will use throughout my life.
VYPE: What accomplishment or memory are you most proud of?
One of my favorite memories and something I’m very proud of is my very first Varsity game. I started as a freshman and was extremely nervous. Nonetheless, it was an exciting overtime win, and I was able to control my nerves and play well. I had so much fun playing in front of an awesome crowd, and it is a game I will never forget.
VYPE: Who inspires you?
My mother inspires me. She is my role model and is an amazing woman to look up to. She is a hard worker, caring, and always pushes me to be my best in everything. It is a huge blessing to have her as someone whom I aspire to be in my life.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade?
My favorite teacher is Mr. Widener, who was my tenth-grade history teacher. He is my favorite teacher because he prepares students for after high school, and always goes the extra mile to make sure everyone understands the material. In addition, he is a great guy and is so supportive of everyone.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you?
Serenity Golightly. She was my PG during my freshman and sophomore years. Everything from her work ethic, compassion, and energy set her apart, and I am so happy that I got to experience playing with her.
VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?
My favorite part of representing my high school as an athlete is getting to compete and challenge myself, along with representing my community. I also love getting to play and make memories with teammates that I have grown up with as well.
VYPE: Are you involved in any other activities?
I am involved in the Chickasha Jr. City Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and am a member of the National Honor Society.
VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.
I want to say thank you to my HS coach, Coach Johnson. He has been my coach since I was in the 8th grade, and what an opportunity and blessing I have had to grow and learn from the same coach all these years. Also, a special thank you to my AAU coach, Harper, who has always believed in and advocated for me. Lastly, thank you to my family, trainer (Blake Taylor), coaches, and teammates who make me a better person and athlete every day. Grateful and appreciative of you all!
