Brynlie Alexander is a sophomore at Chickasha High School. She participates in basketball, softball, soccer, and the academic team. Her career in sports started at a young age due to being a part of an athletic family. She’s been playing basketball for seven years. Alexander’s favorite part of basketball is her team. They welcomed her and helped her through her freshman year.
The highest moment in her career so far is starting as only a freshman in all of the sports that she participates in. She has previously been awarded the high school Athlete of the Year and Basketball Defensive Player of the Year awards. Alexander’s favorite sports moment so far was when her team was competing against Blanchard and she made a steal that cemented the win for her team. When things get tough, her end goal keeps her motivated.
Her biggest positive impact is the assistant coach for softball and weight lifting coach, Dylan Verser. He jokes with her and corrects her when needed.
Her biggest role model is Caitlin Clark, due to her drive to always be a better version of herself and her skills as a basketball player.
Alexander’s favorite subject in school is math because it’s fun for her. Her favorite teacher is Mrs. Jantzen, her English teacher, because she is a very sweet, smart teacher that is always encouraging and funny. In her free time, Alexander likes to play basketball, draw, and build Legos. After high school, she plans to get a basketball scholarship to attend OU, majoring in architectural engineering.
For Alexander, being a great athlete means being encouraging, trusting your team, and being able to move on after a mistake. Sports have taught her how to control her emotions and to work hard when no one is watching so that she can perform when everyone is. The advice that she has for her fellow athletes is not to specialize too early and to do the work outside of practice.
“Practice is where you refine the skills you build on your own time,” Alexander says.
