Hollis’ Heidi Smith – FFA & Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Farm Credit of Western Oklahoma

Hollis High School’s Heidi Smith

Hollis High School junior Heidi Smith is a member of the varsity cross country team and part of the FFA program at school.

A member of FFA since the eighth grade, Smith said she loves being part of the program and it was a family member who encouraged her to join.

“I was in the eighth grade when I joined FFA. My sister influenced me to join and also being raised on a farm and showing livestock played a big role in my decision of being in FFA,” said Smith.

As with most members of FFA, Smith is involved in several activities including serving as an officer for the Hollis program.

“I am involved in showing livestock and last year I was the sentinel in our officer team. I have also been a part of the eighth grade creed team and participated in saying speeches,” said Smith.

Smith said the Hollis community is a great place to be a student-athlete.

“HHS school has a great community and has the best people always cheering you on. Our coaches pour a lot of their energy and time into making sure we are the best we can be, and I deeply appreciate it,” Smith said. “After I graduate, I would like to go to college and get a degree in radiology.”

Smith said she enjoys the work it takes to be a team member at the varsity level, but when she’s not running you can usually find Smith with friend, family or her pigs. Smith said her work ethic comes from her grandfather.

“I enjoy running with my friends and the work it requires,” Smith said. “I enjoy reading, training our pigs and hanging out with friends in my free time. A person who inspires me would be my grandpa. His work ethic and determination for things his whole life has played a big role for our family.”
