Plainview’s Dominique Coursey – Football Spotlight – Presented by Express Pharmacy

Dominique Coursey is proving himself as one of the school’s most versatile athletes. Competing in football, basketball, and track, Coursey, who is a sophomore at Plainview High School, is constantly finding ways to challenge himself and contribute to his teams. His drive, consistency, and faith are what set him apart both on and off the field.

Coursey’s biggest influence has always been his mom. “She has worked hard to raise me and my siblings since day one,” he said. Her strength and determination inspire him to give his best effort in everything he does. He also credits teachers like Ms. Germany and Mrs. Burson for making an impact on his life, encouraging him through their support and dedication.

When it comes to athletics, Coursey believes the key to success is consistency, showing up every day with focus, determination, and a willingness to improve. That mindset paid off early in his career when he earned a starting role on the varsity basketball team as a freshman, an accomplishment that remains a highlight moment.

Rivalries fuel his competitive edge, and he admits there’s no opponent he enjoys facing more than Lone Grove, Plainview’s longtime rival. In practice, though, it’s his teammate Jaden Smith who pushes him the most. “He pushes me,” Coursey said simply, emphasizing the value of having teammates who make him better.

Outside of athletics, Coursey is active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and he looks up to legendary football coach Nick Saban on social media, calling him “the greatest coach and motivator.” Like his role model, Coursey understands the importance of discipline, preparation, and mindset in reaching goals.

Balancing athletics and academics is no easy task, but Coursey relies on time management to keep himself on track. He knows representing Plainview means more than putting on a uniform. “It means the world to me,” he said of carrying his school’s name into competition.

At the center of everything Coursey does is his faith. He lives by Proverbs 3:5-7, which reminds him to trust in the Lord, lean not on his own understanding, and always put God first. For Coursey, success in sports is important, but honoring God and representing his school and family well will always matter most.
