Mangum’s Cooper Kerbo – Football Spotlight

Cooper Kerbo, a sophomore at Mangum High School, is already gaining yards on and off the field. Playing middle linebacker and fullback, Cooper demonstrates strength, both mentally and physically, with every yard he defends. As a multi-sport athlete, participating in football, baseball, and wrestling, he’s proving that juggling three sports takes a strong core and an even stronger why.

When it comes to motivation, Cooper shares that his parents are his biggest fans. ”They are always there to support me.”  He also mentions a former teacher who made a lasting impact on him, Mrs. Wendt. “ She was very strict, which taught me discipline that shaped the athlete and student I am today,” he shares.

Cooper also credits his teammates for playing a role in his success in sports. He explains, “My favorite teammate to work with is Trey Williams because we enjoy challenging each other.” He also mentions Luke Kuechly and Mike Alstott as being the “tough and technical guys” who are influential to him.

A defining career milestone for Cooper is getting the most tackles in the 2028 class. Talk about making a statement for the young sophomore!  When it comes to competition, Cooper is not afraid of a challenge. He’s proud to reflect on one of his favorite games against Hobart. “Beating Hobart means the most to me, and it’s the result of years of dedication and commitment to my program.”

When it comes to school, he has no problem juggling studies and sports. This comes with great support from his teachers and parents. Looking beyond high school, he hopes to pursue a business degree in college.

Cooper is what every high school team would dream of having. Someone who is devoted to their studies, their sports, and appreciates the people who got them there. “ It means the world to me to be a part of the culture of Mangum High School.” He hopes to further his football career on the fields of SWOSU, UCO, or ECU. With the discipline and drive he’s instilled in himself already, he’s on the right path to obtain all the goals he’s set out to achieve.
