Duncan’s Landry Terry says that her success is built on effort, teamwork, and setting goals, both big and small. Competing in cross country, cheer, and track, Landry juggles a busy schedule but thrives on the challenges that come with it.
“I am most motivated by the end goal of winning a state championship and just doing anything it takes, even to have a chance to get there,” she said. “Giving yourself smaller goals throughout the season makes the big idea possible. Another big motivator is my teammates! I always want to put in my best effort to make them better and make them successful.”
Her drive comes from the example set by her dad, who she calls one of her biggest influences. “He is one of the hardest workers I know,” Landry said. “He never settles for anything less than perfection, and he has taught me about believing in yourself and having a good attitude and mindset.” She also credits Coach K, both in the classroom and on the sidelines, for always encouraging her to be her very best.
Balancing multiple sports hasn’t been easy. Landry, a sophomore at Duncan High School, often splits her athletic hour between cheer and cross country, which means plenty of extra practice on her own. But the dedication has paid off. One of her proudest moments came during her freshman year at the 2024 State Cross Country Meet, when Duncan placed second in state.
Competition fuels Landry, and she especially enjoys facing off against Carl Albert, a rival program with strong runners. In practice, she values the energy of working with her teammates. “We all push each other to be the very best we can be,” she said.
Off the field, Landry is equally committed to her school community, taking part in FCA, NHS, Student Council, and JJC. For her, representing Duncan is a privilege. “Being able to represent DHS in any way I can is such a big deal,” she said. “Having school spirit and striving to do the best you can has such a big impact, not only on you and your team, but also on the student body.”
With her determination, school spirit, and love for her teammates, Landry is a standout Eagle with a bright future ahead.
