WEATHERFORD EAGLES
Coach: TAYLOR SOSSAMON
8-3
OFFENSE
Weatherford returns an experienced and physical offensive line that will be the anchor of the unit this fall. Jordan Martinez (6-1, 240, Sr.), Isaiah Raji (6-1, 240, Sr.), and towering tackle Jace Rosenkranz (6-5, 285, Sr.) bring size and toughness up front, paving the way for a promising ground attack. Ty Short, a senior running back with a sturdy 210-pound frame, will be counted on to carry the load between the tackles. Short’s physical style and vision make him a reliable option to control the tempo of games. Outside, the Eagles have a pair of dynamic receivers ready to stretch the field. Cooper Bryant (6-2, 175, Jr.) not only sets the tone with his play but also with his leadership and character. Alongside him, Talon Scott brings speed and quickness that can keep opposing secondaries honest. Sophomore Ryker Smith could emerge as an X-factor in the backfield. Already one of the strongest players on the roster and a state wrestling qualifier, Smith combines power with explosiveness. Expect him to push for significant carries and complement Short’s veteran presence. Overall, the offense will lean on its seasoned line and hard-nosed backs to set the tone while the passing game looks to capitalize on play-action opportunities.
DEFENSE
The Eagles’ defense will be built around grit and discipline, featuring a core of proven competitors and emerging talent. Linebacker Lukas Burd (6-0, 190, Sr.) stands out as a heart-and-soul player. A 4A state placer in wrestling, Burd plays bigger than his frame, bringing toughness to both the front seven and offensive line. He will take on an expanded role at linebacker this year. On the defensive line, Martinez, Luke Downs (6-0, 200, Sr.), and Austin Burkeen (6-0, 215, Jr.) provide experience and motor, while outside linebacker Preson King (5-11, 175, Sr.) adds athleticism to the edge. The safety group is anchored by Jakoby Flynn (5-9, 145, Sr.), a player who provides leadership on the back end. Sophomore twins Aiden and Andrew Willard, both 275-pound linemen and accomplished wrestlers, are expected to rotate into the trenches and continue developing into impact players. With a blend of veteran presence and young power, Weatherford’s defense has the tools to be one of the most physical units in their class.
