2025 Hobart Bearcats Football Preview – Presented by Cattlemens Bank

HOBART BEARCATS

Coach: COLT ALLISON

4-6

OFFENSE

The Hobart Bearcats enter the 2025 season with renewed energy and a clear sense of identity. After a 4-6 finish last year, head coach Colt Allison returns a veteran group with experience and a hunger to turn close games into wins. The Bearcats bring back eight starters on offense, providing continuity and leadership across the board. At the helm of the offense is junior quarterback Eli Ellis (5-9, 165, Sr.), who will be counted on to take command of the huddle and lead the team both through the air and on the ground. Ellis gained valuable experience last season and has put in work throughout the offseason to improve his accuracy and field vision. His growth and leadership will be a major key to Hobart’s success. Up front, the offensive line returns key pieces who are battle-tested and ready to take on the challenge of a tough schedule. While there are concerns about depth behind the starters, the starting unit has shown grit and toughness during the summer, giving the offense a reliable foundation. The Bearcats will look to mix a physical ground game with timely passing. A group of hard-nosed running backs and versatile receivers are ready to contribute, many of whom were part of the starting rotation last season. The team’s chemistry and familiarity with the system should allow them to play fast and efficiently early in the year.

DEFENSE

Just like on offense, the Bearcats return eight starters on the defensive side of the ball, including the heartbeat of the unit: linebacker Dalton Hamlet (5-9, 175, Sr.). Hamlet was a tackling machine in 2024, racking up 93 total stops and providing a physical, sideline-to-sideline presence. His instincts and leadership will be critical as Hobart looks to improve against some of the state’s more physical offenses. The defensive front returns with solid experience, and while depth remains a concern, the starters are confident, aggressive, and committed to flying to the football. The secondary has shown improvement in camp and will aim to create more turnovers this fall. If the Bearcats can stay healthy and keep building momentum, they could surprise some people and compete for a playoff spot in 2025.
