The mental and physical challenges of track and cross country make Nathan Gable passionate about running. This passion led him to the huge accomplishment of qualifying for the state track meet in three events.
Nathan runs the 800m, 1600m and 3200m for Duke Public Schools where he will be a junior next year. He is a multi-sport athlete who also plays basketball and golf.
Running cross country was a natural choice to go along with track. “I got into cross country and track last year because my dad thought I would be good at it and Coach Donna was supportive and willing to volunteer her time to help students try it out. Big thanks to my family and coach Donna for believing in me and helping me become the best version of myself,” said Nathan.
His favorite part of track is meeting new people and learning lessons that will carry into everyday life. “Track has taught me the importance of discipline and consistency. I’ve used that in life because showing up and doing your best matters,” the best advice he says, “is to give it your all no matter what you’re doing.”
Being a part of a team teaches young athletes how to work and compete well with others. Nathan enjoys the camaraderie of his teams. “To me, it means sharing the success and knowing you can accomplish goals better as a team.” Nathan is proud to represent DPS as a student-athlete. “I know that my hard work and success is a way I can give back to my community.”
Nathan is inspired by his dad who is always cheering him on. This encourages Nathan to give his best effort and to do his best. The teammate he looks up to is Bradley Tamplen. Bradley was always there for Nathan when he needed to be picked up or cheered on.
Sports are a big part of Nathan’s life, but he also loves hunting and being outdoors. Summertime is the best because of all the family trips. “We don’t take big vacations, but we spend the summer in our camper. I love that because you are outdoors with the people you love.”
When he graduates from high school, Nathan wants to go into mechanics.
