Altus Area Players to Watch – Presented by JCMH Orthopedic Clinic

Baseball

Trent Carman & Garrett Gribble – Altus

Trent is an outstanding baseball player that brings a lot into his senior season. He looks to help guide this team in the direction of success. He is the returning leading hitter and innings pitched from last year. Garrett is a vocal leader on this team. His presence and knowledge in the outfield is such a valuable asset, especially being so young in the outfield. He is the lone lefty in the lineup from a year ago, when he led the team in triples.

Matt Parker – Hollis

Matt has a very high baseball IQ, hits lead off as a lefty, and knows what it takes to get on base. He is very strong defensively and can play any position on the field if needed. Very talented on the mound as a pitcher as well. He’s just a sophomore but Matt is growing into one of Hollis’ multiple leadership roles and he looks to continue a very promising career.

Slowpitch Softball

Brynne Woodress – Mangum

Brynne is a great ball player. She can play anywhere on the field and to top it off, she is a great leader. A competitor that loves to compete and will give everything she has to help her team win. She is a very knowledgeable player and understands the game and what is being asked of her. She comes off a fantastic senior year in fast-pitch earning All Conference Pitcher and All District Pitcher of the Year.

Tennis

Racer Burrow – Altus

Racer finished fourth at state last year, and he is a three-time state qualifier. He is a senior this year, and Burrow is a great kid, and he motivates everyone to be their best.

Evyn Bull – Altus

Evyn is a sophomore and a solid member of the Bulldogs tennis team. Her dedication pushes the older girls to be better and make sure they are going hard, not to be out done by a younger player. Evyn always shows up ready to go and has a great attitude.

Track

Jenna Blackford – Altus

Jenna has been the state runner up in the shot put for three years in a row. She has continued to improve her distances each year. She broke a 30 year old school record in the discus last year and is only four inches away from breaking the 30 year old shot put record. Jenna will be continuing her track career at Oklahoma Baptist University, where she received a full ride scholarship. Jenna is also the student body president.

Jamelle Alexander – Altus

Jamelle, a junior, will be highly counted on in the 400 and 800 relays as well as the 100. Jamelle has been working hard in practice and been a leader within the sprint group. Whenever coaches need someone to lead a workout, Jamelle is more than willing to take charge and take ownership of the sprint group.

Tori Whisenant – Hollis

Tori is very athletic and can sprint 400m and under, jump hurdles, and could do more field events if not limited to four events. The great thing about Tori is you can plug her in anywhere on the track, and she is a difference maker with a very diverse skill set. She has a good attitude and will try anything you ask her and give it her all while doing so.
