With a rebound on the court or a tackle on the field, Kye Brott symbolizes the dedication it takes to excel in two sports at Elk City High School. A junior, Brott plays center for the basketball team and defensive end in football, earning recognition for his adaptability and effort.
Brott’s love for sports began in the fourth grade when he was encouraged by his parents, who pushed him to try multiple activities. While he attempted soccer, golf, and baseball, it was football and basketball that captured his passion.
“Basketball and football stood out,” he said. “I’ve been playing both my whole life.”
This basketball season, Brott has set clear goals. Inspired by NBA legend Dennis Rodman, he aims to dominate the boards with rebounds. “Rodman’s work ethic on the court is something I try to emulate,” he said. “For the team, I want us to grow as a family, not just as players.”
One of his favorite moments came during a game against Altus High School. Down by nine points, the team rallied to secure a thrilling comeback victory.
“It showed how strong we are as a team,” he said.
Off the field, Brott draws inspiration from his dad, who served in the Army. “The mentality you need for the Army isn’t much different from sports,” he said. Discipline and resilience, values instilled by his father, guide him both on and off the field.
Looking ahead, Brott dreams of playing college football but is open to joining the Army if sports don’t work out. His interest in becoming a helicopter mechanic for special operations reflects his thoughtful approach to life beyond the game.
Whether on the court, the field, or preparing for the future, Kye Brott represents the spirit of hard work and perseverance.
