VYPE: What grade are you in and what sports do you play?
Shyla: I am a senior at Weatherford High School and I am part of the basketball and track
teams. I have also signed with Southern Nazarene University to continue my pole vaulting
career.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that makes you a better person?
Shyla: Both my sports have taught me how to be a mentally tough athlete and how to be a
leader on and off the court and track.
VYPE: What accomplishment or memory are you most proud of?
Shyla: My favorite memory was freshman year, when we won the 4A State championship in
track
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you?
Shyla: Throughout high school, the Hoffman’s have left the biggest impression on me. Addy and
Jordan Hoffman both played basketball and ran track with me. They have taught me so much
through the two years we played together. As upper classmen they always pushed me and have
made me a tougher athlete because of it.
VYPE: Who inspires you?
Shyla: My mom because she has always been my biggest supporter. She always makes time
for me, makes every game or meet, and is my best friend. I look to her as a friend, mentor, and
coach.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade?
Shyla: Mrs. Brownen, my third grade teacher. She held high expectations for us and was an
amazing teacher who taught me to be accountable.
VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
Shyla: Keep your head down and keep working.
VYPE: Are you involved in any other activities?
Shyla: Outside of school, my family and I rodeo. My two sisters and I trick ride and perform
during the rodeo. We mostly rodeo in the summer and travel the country, performing at different
rodeos.
VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.
Shyla: I would like to thank my family, my teammates, and coaches that have helped me to
become the person/athlete I am today. Most of all I am thankful for my lord and savior.
