There are moments throughout an athlete’s career that are memorable for one reason or another. It could be a team victory or a personal achievement, or as in the case of Mylie Morales, a memorable play that she made.
“I think the highlight of my career would probably be when we were playing Carnegie on my birthday,” she recalled. “I was playing in left field and when the ball was hit, it was far away from me. But I ran and almost missed it, but I jumped towards the ball and I caught it. I was upset by that game and that moment made me feel better.”
Morales is a senior at Olustee-Eldorado High School. Along with playing softball, she is also a member of the cheerleading team. She is also a member of the Academic Team and in the Gifted and Talented program.
There is a lot that goes into being a successful athlete. But Morales says that she knows what it takes and she likes the competition the sport brings.
“It takes a lot of practice and hard work to be a good athlete,” she said. “One team I like playing against is Corn Bible Academy. We’ve never beat them but when we play against them, they cheer us on and keep the game fun.”
Mylie has people in her life that have helped her grow and become the person that she is. As a student, she says that it is nice to have a teacher that she can trust.
“My favorite teacher would have to be Ms. Boddy, my English teacher,” she said. “She is an adult that I know I can talk to whenever I need someone to talk to or just need advice.”
Balancing athletics and school work can be tough for some, but Morales says that if you focus, you can do it.
“It doesn’t take a lot to be honest,” she said. “I just focus on work during school hours as much as possible, because I don’t have homework unless I did not finish an assignment during class.”
