Role models can play a big role in the success of a high school student athlete. While they may not directly impact them, the example that they set can go a long way. Nathan Mahan says that as a baseball player, there is a professional baseball player that he looks up to the most.
“Someone that has influenced me is Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees,” Mahan said. “He inspires me because he is really strong and I really like the way that he plays the game. I want to be just like him. Another person that has played a role in me becoming who I am is coach Jensen, my baseball coach. He has inspired and pushed me to meet my full potential.”
Nathan is in his junior year at Fletcher High School, where he plays pitcher, first base, and left field for the baseball team.
“ ”Throughout his career, Nathan has made a lot of memories with his teammates, both on and off the field. But he has a few that stand out to him.
“I think the highlight of my career so far would have to be my first home run of the season,” he said. “Another would be anytime I get to play against a team that I have friends on.”
Along with the inspiration of Judge and Jensen, Nathan has become the player he is today because of the work that he has put in.
“It takes blood, sweat, and tears in order to be a successful athlete,” he said. “I keep myself motivated because I want to always be the best player that I can be.”
Mahan enjoys competing alongside his teammates on the field and he also appreciates being able to practice with them, which he feels makes them better athletes.
“I think my favorite teammate to practice against is Rayce Stoll,” he said. “We are about the same skill level.”
Being able to wear the Wildcat uniform is something that Nathan does not take for granted.
“It’s really important to me that we all look our best and are trying our hardest when we are out on the field,” he stated. “We’re representing not only ourselves but also our peers.”
