Austin Maddox is in his senior year at Dibble High School. He is a member of the baseball and football teams. Throughout his athletic career, Austin has made many memories that are important to him. But out of all of them, he has one that sits at the top of the list.
“My highlight moment so far has been hitting the game winning home run in regionals,” he recalled. “It happened at 1:30AM to advance my team to the next round of the postseason.”
Moments like that only happen because an athlete like Maddox has dedicated himself to doing whatever it takes to be his best. It may not always be easy, but the work is required.
“It takes a lot of work and focus to be successful in my sports,” he said. “There is staying after practice to do extra work and going to the field late at night with the guys to work on our team chemistry.”
When he and his teammates step out on the field to compete, Austin knows that they will be ready to play whoever is on the schedule. But he says he does have one team that he enjoys going up against the most.
“The team I love beating the most in both sports has to be Minco,” he stated. “They have been our rival for years and every game we play against each other gets scrappy.”
Wearing the Dibble uniform is not something that he takes lightly. For Austin, he hopes to be someone that others can look up to.
“Representing my town is my goal every time I touch the field,” he said. “I try to set a good example for the little kids who look up to me.”
There have been people throughout his life that have made an impact on him, but Maddox says that there are two people that have had the biggest influence.
“My parents are my biggest role models,” he said. “They’ve always been there for me, pushed me to get better, and have been to almost all of my games.”
