Briar Anglin is a senior at Amber-Pocasset High School. He participates in baseball, basketball, and golf. He’s been involved in sports since he was around 4 or 5 years old. His dad was involved in baseball growing up and encouraged Briar and his brother to participate in sports as well. His favorite part about baseball is that the game mirrors life in so many ways. “Every game teaches you determination, patience, and ultimately the value of hard work. It’s about being a part of something bigger than yourself while still having the chance to leave your mark in those defining moments,” Briar says.
His favorite subject in school is math. He says “math has always been easy for me. I have always loved doing calculations and always knowing that there is a correct answer; you just have to find it.” Briar’s favorite teacher is his English teacher, Mr. Guthrie. “He has always taught me that there are some things that you really have to work for and there are some things that just come a little easier. In his free time, Briar likes to hunt, fish, and play games outdoors.
Briar’s biggest role model is his dad. “My dad has taught me everything I know. Not only the baseball side of things, but also everyday stuff. He has shown me that you can do anything that you want as long as you put your mind to it and put in the work to get it,” Briar says. His biggest positive impacts have been his coaches, but also his dad. After high school, Briar plans to go to EMT school, and after that work to become a firefighter.
Sports have taught Briar that no matter what’s happening or what’s going on, to continue forward. “There are times when things don’t go your way and if you let that get to you, you won’t get the outcome that you’re looking for; not just in sports, but in life,” Briar says. His advice to his fellow athletes is to stay consistent in every aspect and to never lose sight of what makes the game special to you.
