OUTLOOK

After an 18-year stint and postseason success at Byng, head coach Trent Miller hopes to bring similar success to Am-Po. “There will be some typical first-year challenges that we will have to overcome,” Miller said, “but I have a good mix of seasoned upperclassmen and contributing underclassmen, which should be a good combination as they make the transition to a new system. Expectations are high and we are looking forward to a deep postseason run.” Guard Ainslee McComas (5-5, Sr.) averaged 13.9 points and 2.9 assists last year. Miller called McComas “hard-nosed, athletic and ultra competitive” and predicted her contention to become an All-State selection at the end of the season. “[McComas] is not only our best player but very unselfish and possibly the most selfless kid I’ve ever coached,” Miller said. Guard/forward Sadie Lin (5-8, Jr.), who scored 8.5 points and grabbed 7.5 boards a night as a junior, pulls the pressure off McComas.  “Sadie is strong, athletic, kind of tweener, can play inside-out,” Miller said. “She shoots the ball well. I just think her ability to not only shoot the 3 but attack the rim makes her a tough matchup. It’s hard for smaller guards to match up, and her ability to stretch and shoot the ball and go off-the-dribble makes it harder for bigs to keep in front.” Forwards Gracen Hicks (5-5, Sr.), Blakely Miller (5-10, So.), Addison Polson (5-5, So.) and Brylee Keck (5-4, So.) bring back a combined 18.8 points. “I think Gracen provides us with a lot of toughness and leadership. I think her inside presence will be improved from last year, scoring-wise,” Miller said. “Blakely and Addison and Brylee, I anticipate and very much expect them to have very good sophomore years. They will be major contributors to our success and our ability to do what we want to do.”
