Duke High School’s Jackson Zorger grew up around livestock and agriculture. It’s a way of life for Zorger and his family who also encouraged him to get involved with the FFA chapter at DHS.
“I joined FFA as soon as I was old enough to. I started showing pigs at eight, my papa taught me to weld, and I grew up on a farm. My Uncle has always encouraged me and inspired me in the show barn,” said Zorger.
As a member of the FFA chapter, Zorger is involved in several activities including baseball and golf.
“I enjoy being with my FFA chapter. But the most enjoyable thing to me is showing cattle and representing my chapter in the ring. I’m mostly involved in showing livestock and ag mechanics,” Zorger said. “I show steers, and I play baseball and golf.”
Zorger said anyone interested in FFA should step out of their comfort zone and give it a try.
“I would encourage them to get out of their comfort zone and join. So many opportunities and field trips. You have to opportunity to travel the state and USA meeting new people and making new connections,” said Zorger.
As a member of the baseball team, Zorger said he pitches, plays third base and hits clean-up. Now a senior, Zroger said he’s enjoyed helping the younger players on the team.
“I’ve enjoyed helping the younger players transition into high school ball, to set an example and to hit one over the fence for my grandpa since he hasn’t seen me hit one over yet.”
As for his plans after high school? Zorger is looking forward to attending college. “I plan to go to OSU to pursue an ag business degree. Then I plan to go to lineman school and after I finish there I plan to go work for my dad at R&R powerline and hope to one day take it over.”
