The lives of young people can be influenced by a number of things, including the people that they are surrounded by each and every day. Lance Womack says that his family has played a big part in him becoming who he is today.
“My family has shaped who and how I am as a person,” he said. “This includes how I treat others, how I think of myself, and how I work hard to reach my goals. As far as basketball is concerned, my brother, Lane Womack, has always been very good at basketball and that has always pushed me to work hard to try to be better than him.”
Lance is a sophomore at Duke High School, where he is a member of the basketball, baseball, and golf teams. Outside of athletics, he is also involved with the Student Council and the Academic Team.
While his family has had a hand in it, Womack has invested a lot in order to be the best athlete that he can be.
“To be successful in my sports, it takes many things including having people who support me, which I have been very blessed to have in the community of Duke, which I think of as my family,” he said. “It also takes dedication and love for the sport to really give it your all. Winning motivates me. Wanting to be my best self pushes me to work as hard as I can at practice and on my own time so I can “show up” for the people who come to watch us. Another motivation of mine is to keep the tradition of winning in Duke boys basketball alive. Most importantly, anything that I am capable of and able to do is because of God, and I attribute all of my success to Him.”
Throughout his career, Lance has made a lot of memories that are special to him. But out of them all, there is one that stands out as his favorite.
“I think the highlight of my career would have to be making it to the state tournament and getting to play in the Big House,” he said. “It was a great experience.”
