GRANITE PANTHERS

BOYS

Coach: Kol Bomhoff

23-24 Record: 23-7

The Panthers advanced to the Class B state tournament last season for the first time since 1970. As they enter this new season, they are looking to overcome their first round exit. Head coach Kol Bomhoff says that he likes the makeup of his team and thinks they could make another run this season. “We return three starters and our four leading scorers from last year’s state tournament team,” Bohhoff said. “If we stay healthy we have a chance to be really good.” The top scorer back this season is Justice Davenport (5-10, Sr.) who averaged 24 points per game last year. He is an ultimate competitor and great scorer. He has also won multiple awards and honors, including a two-time OBCA Region 4 All-District recipient. He was also named to six all-tournament teams and won Most Valuable Player of two of them. Gavin Esparza (5-10, Jr.) is back after ending last season with 13.3 points per game and three steals. A key returning player is Weston Brewer (5-10, Jr.). “Weston is one of the most important pieces of our operation,” said Bomhoff. “He is without a doubt our hardest working dude. He does all the things others don’t want to do, and he is for sure Mr. Hustle. His work ethic has also led to his shot coming around, and he really shot it well from the outside toward the end of our season last year.” Jaxson Wade (5-11, Jr.) is a talented and athletic player and he looks to have a big season for the Panthers. Two other players that are expected to have an impact on the season are Jake Murray (6-5, Sr.) and Caleb Callahan (6-3, Jr.).
