High school student athletes put in a lot of time to improve at their sport. But they also have to be at their best in the classroom, because if they do not make the grades, they will have to miss competitions. Saveer Bryant is a wrestler for Altus High School and she says that in order to be successful on the mat and in the classroom takes perseverance.
“It takes a lot of time management,” she said. “Doing things like pushing through even when you are tired.”
Saveer is in her senior year at Altus. Along with wrestling for the Bulldogs, she also wrestles with Team Worx outside of school.
During her career, Bryant has enjoyed a lot of great moments, but she says that out of all of them, there is one that she looks to as her favorite.
“The highlight of my career has to be when I bounced back from a two-month concussion and made it to the State tournament,” she said.
There are people that have helped shape Saveer into the person that she is today and she is thankful for each of them.
“My family is my biggest motivation,” she said. “I want to do my best to make them proud. Also, Mr. Kealin Torres has heavily impacted my life because he helps me become a better wrestler. My role model is Arianna Grande because she inspires me to work hard and build myself up.”
Bryant has put in her time to become better at wrestling. She says that her teammates have also played a big role in her getting to where she is today.
“It has taken a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, literally,” she said. “It has also taken late nights at the gym and pep talks from my dad. Also, I have great teammates. My favorite teammate to work with during practice is Aubrey Brown, because she works hard and we can laugh together.”
