Tipton’s Angie Manriquez – Basketball Spotlight

Scoring up to 20 points in one game is a goal that many student athlete basketball players can only hope to achieve, but Angie Manriquez, a sophomore at Tipton High School, made it happen! Angie participates in basketball, volleyball, softball, track, Student Council, and FFA. Already this semester, Angie has been selected as Altus Ace Hardware Player of the Game.

Her favorite subject in school is history because she really enjoys learning about all of the events of the past. Her favorite teacher is Mrs. M. White because “she’s always there for me and makes sure that I’m always doing the best that I can in whatever it is I do,” she says. Angie’s biggest role model is Jayda Coleman. Angie says it’s because “she’s just such an exceptional athlete who can do anything and isn’t afraid to show her faith.”

The people who have made the biggest impacts on Angie has been her nieces. She says “they always hold me accountable, tell me things I need to work on, and how to be better.” In her free time, Angie likes to go to the batting cages, read, work out, and hang out with her best friend Jiana. Her favorite moments with her team is just getting to practice with them, working hard together, and having fun with them.

Angie has been playing basketball since she was six years old. She got started with sports through her family. From even a young age, her family would play sports together and showed her how much fun sports could be. For Angie, to be a great athlete is being disciplined, coachable, having a good attitude, and being there for your teammates. Sports have taught her what it really means to be a teammate and how to push herself to the limit. Her favorite part of basketball is making memories that will last her a lifetime. Angie says that what keeps her going when things get tough is God. “Knowing He’s there for me and things will get better,” she says.

After high school, Angie plans to attend college with an athletic scholarship and study to eventually become a coach. The advice that she has for her fellow athletes is “always work hard, but most importantly, have fun.”
