Canute’s Jaxon Beck – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Sovereign Bank

“My role on the team is whatever they need me to be,” said Jaxon Beck, a standout senior basketball player at Canute High School. “If I’m needed to score, I’ll go do that. If I’m needed to get us into our sets, I can do that. Anything our team needs to win, I’m always the guy that can step up and do it.”

Beck’s basketball roots run deep, influenced by his father, a coach. “I grew up a coach’s kid and spent most of my time in the gym. Ever since I was little, I couldn’t wait until I could play high school basketball.” That early exposure to the sport built his passion and drive to excel. “Basketball was something I picked up on my own. I was never forced to play, but I’ve always been super competitive. The hatred of losing and the love of winning has been the main drive that keeps me playing.”

As Canute’s team prepares for the 2024 season, Jaxon’s goals for the season are ambitious: “I want to win the Class A State Championship. We also aim for 20+ wins, winning records in tournaments, and our conference title.”

While Jaxon has enjoyed many highlights in his career, one moment stands out. “The most memorable moment from last season came in the Regional Consolation Championship. We were only up three with five minutes left. They cheated to our big on an inbounds play, which left me open in the corner. I made the 3-point shot, which switched the whole momentum of the game. On the next play, I stole the ball and dished it off to my teammate, who got an And-1.”

As he looks toward the future, Jaxon hopes to continue playing basketball at the collegiate or professional level. “After high school, I plan to graduate and play college basketball. I look forward to majoring in sports communications and becoming an analyst, broadcaster, or someone who just puts out their opinions on sports.”

With his father as both his role model and coach, Jaxon embraces his impact on the next generation. “It’s one of the best feelings knowing that kids look up to you, and I pride myself on making sure I set a good example for them to follow.”
