Cordell’s Dason Ramsey – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Eagle Realty

“The most difficult part of my basketball career so far was when I broke my hand during the off-season,” said DasonRamsey, a senior basketball player at Cordell High School. “It threw everything about my game off, but I’ve been able to overcome it by working through it to get back to where I was.” That resilience defines Dason’s approach to both basketball and life—he’s a player who keeps moving forward, no matter the obstacles.

Dason’s journey with basketball began back in fifth grade, when his friends encouraged him to join the sport. “My friends mainly inspired me to take up basketball, but I’d say my biggest influence has been my brother. All the way up through junior high and high school, he’s taught me stuff to become a better player.”

This season, Dason and his teammates are focused on building something even stronger. “The team’s chemistry is looking good this season,” he said. “We have a great group of guys, and we are looking forward to sharing the court together.” Although Dason doesn’t assign himself a specific role, he’s dedicated to helping everyone around him improve. “I am always preparing and trying to help the guys around me improve and be better every day.”

Training is a constant grind for Dason. “A typical week of training for me looks like the normal practices during school, the after-school conditioning, and just getting shots up and practicing whenever possible.” That hard work paid off last year when the team won consolation at the Cordell Classic. “Being able to turn around and win two back-to-back games after losing the first was a great time for the team.”

Looking to the future, Dason plans to focus on his family’s business rather than basketball. “I see myself working for my family’s business and hopefully helping make it bigger” Grateful for the support he’s received, Dason said, “Firstly and most importantly, I’d like to thank the Lord for making everything in my life possible. I would also like to thank my parents for giving me all of the resources to succeed.”

For younger athletes, Dason offers this advice: “Never stop working and do not give up on your dreams.”
