WEATHERFORD LADY EAGLES
Coach: KALI HAWORTH
2023 Record: 20-9
OUTLOOK
The Weatherford Lady Eagles are set to enter the 2024 season with high expectations, fueled by a combination of experienced leadership and a wave of talented newcomers. Head coach Kali Haworth acknowledges that while the team may lack size, they more than make up for it with speed, grit, and relentless effort. “We don’t have a lot of height, but we do have quickness and effort,” Haworth said. “Our girls never back down from competition.”
The Lady Eagles will rely on their signature man-to-man pressure defense to disrupt opponents and control the pace of the game. “We want to disrupt the other team’s rhythm and make them uncomfortable,” Haworth explained. “Defense sets the tone for how we play.”
Offensively, Weatherford embraces a fast-paced style focused on quick transitions and capitalizing on their speed. “We’re focused on playing fast and taking advantage of our quickness,” Haworth said, noting that versatility will also be key to the team’s success. This year’s roster showcases a mix of seasoned upperclassmen and promising underclassmen. Leading the way are three seniors—Shyla Navarre (5’3, Sr. PG), Braelee Epp (5’3, Sr. G), and Marley Teasley (5’7, Sr. G) —who bring valuable experience and leadership to the team. Teasley, a 1st Team All-VYPE nominee, will serve as a crucial scoring threat, while Epp, named to the 2nd Team All-VYPE, provides steady production in the backcourt. Navarre, honored with an Honorable Mention All-VYPE nod, is praised by Haworth as the hardest worker on the team. “She leads by example every day and focuses on the little things that inspire everyone around her,” Haworth said.
In addition to the senior trio, the Lady Eagles have a deep pool of young talent eager to contribute. The team includes two juniors, three sophomores, and 10 freshmen, providing both depth and potential for future growth. Post players like Khylee Pribble (6’0, Fr.) and Ella Stickler (5’10, So.) will be instrumental in anchoring the inside game, complementing Weatherford’s quick guards on the perimeter. Despite the influx of youth, Haworth sees the blend of experience and enthusiasm as a strength. “Our young players are eager to learn, and our seniors have done a great job setting the tone. We’ll be a team no one wants to face.” With this mix of leadership and emerging talent, the Lady Eagles are well-positioned to build on their 20-9 record from last season.
