For Jossalynn Schulz, softball isn’t just a sport – it’s a way of life. Born and raised in Weatherford, she has spent countless hours on the ball fields, and her passion for the game has only grown since she first started playing in the U8 rec league. “When our season finished, I didn’t want it to end,” Jossalynn reminisced. Watching her brother play baseball, she was inspired to join a travel team, sparking a journey that has taken her across the Midwest over the past eight summers. “The ball fields have been like a second home to us; just one with all our friends.”
As the center fielder for Weatherford High School, Jossalynn’s impact on the team is undeniable. “I have played many positions over my career, but outfield is where I am most comfortable. I can read the ball well and enjoy shutting down the big play,” she said. With her strong bat in the lineup, she plays a critical role both offensively and defensively.
Jossalynn’s goals for the season are clear: “Bring a state championship back to Weatherford.” After a tough loss in the first round of last year’s state tournament, Jossalynn and her teammates are determined to build on their momentum and come back stronger. Their chemistry as a team plays a significant role in this pursuit. “We have a lot of chemistry, and at any time, we have someone ready to step in and do a job,” she noted.
Balancing practice, games, weight training, and hitting lessons, Jossalynn works hard to refine her skills. She’s also battled through personal challenges, including a hitting slump. “Control the things I can control, give myself permission to step back, and praying for the strength to keep battling,” she said, reflecting on her approach to overcoming obstacles.
Looking ahead, Jossalynn’s future is bright: “I want to play college softball. I know this journey will end someday, but I’ll enjoy it as long as I’m still having fun.”
For Jossalynn, the support of the Weatherford community and her family has been a major source of pride. “It’s the best feeling having people cheer for you who have known you and witnessed for journey. There’s a lot of pride in Weatherford,” she said, and with the team’s drive and talent, she’s ready to make this season one to remember.
